Metafetch

Metafetch is a tool that retrieves meta data for journal articles. Given a file of journal articles which may contain some gaps in meta data, the tool uses APIs for journal sources to retrieve the missing data.

How To Use Metafetch

  1. Prepare your File

  2. This tool retrieves metadata for an article using either its provided DOI or title. Please ensure that your file contains at least one of these headers.

Additionally, the tool can also fill in any existing metadata gaps in your file. To utilize this feature, ensure that headers for the missing data are specified and match the format in the sample files.

Download our sample XLSX files below:

  3. Upload your File
  4. Click 'Choose File' and select the file from your local computer.

Upon uploading a valid file, you will be presented with a summary detailing the gaps present in your data.

  5. Select an API
  6. The tool employs three APIs to search metadata. To choose an API, click on the dropdown menu next to the 'Select Search Option' label. By default, it is set to 'Scopus'. If you are unsure of which API to use, you can select the 'ALL' option..

  7. Fetch metadata
  8. Click the ‘Fetch Metadata’ button to start the search for metadata and fill in any missing gaps.

  9. Preview results
  10. After retrieving the metadata, the summary table will be updated to include basic statistics on the filled gaps.

You also have the option to preview the returned metadata table, located just below the summary table.

  11. Download results

  12. The tool provides two download options for the returned data. You can choose to download either the merged file or the new file.

The merged file includes the originally uploaded data with the missing metadata filled in, while the new file contains the data using only the DOI or title from the uploaded file.

To download your preferred file, simply click on the corresponding buttons labeled 'Download Merged File' or 'Download New File'.
